Anuradhapura being one of the major cultural cities in Sri Lanka can be known as the most scared city carrying great past reminiscences all around the city of our ancient kings’, exotic rulers which created great history testifying of its glory. The city Anuradhapura was the capital of Sri Lanka continuously from the 5th century BC to AD 1017 where it gave birth to Sinhala civilization.
There are many interesting places to visit at Anuradhapura which reveals the history of Sri Lanka. Temples, Stupas, Buddha statues would reveal the serenity of Buddhist culture which has existed over decades in the country. |
Ruwanveli Saya once being the pride of the Great Emperor Dutugamunu is supposed to have the perfect water bubble shape. Thuparama being the oldest dagaba, Isurumuniya temple is very much famous for its rock carvings. Mihinthale, Jethawana Monastery, Abhayagiri Monastery represents great history which relates to introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka.
The city is well known as one of the best and complicated irrigations in the ancient world. Our ancestors had sophisticated systems of man-made lakes and canals and structure of the town was very well planned.
